When folks think of NY City, one of the first thoughts they have, after the famous buildings, is Broadway.
There are thirty-nine professional theatres that you will find actually on Broadway or near Broadway in NY town. Tickets are listed at exclusive prices ; if you and a friend decide to go out for an easy dinner and a show, expect to pay in the $500 range and masses more for box seats and more complicated dining fare.
Musicals are not to be missed as a vibrant part of NYC nightlife in Manhattan. Straight plays also abound on Broadway. You may choose from David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow or American Buffalo, Peter Shaffer’s Equus, Tracy Letts’ comedy August : Osage County, and Anton Chekhov’s immortal classic The Seagull, among many now in production.

There are many Broadway plays that were evolved from other mediums, including popular films. Shows such as Shrek, The 39 Steps, evil, Young Frankenstein, Billy Elliot the Musical, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, White christmas, Mary Poppins and others. Avenue Q was inspired from the television show Sesame Street, yet it offers an adult-themed play.
People get dressed to the nines to attend the theatre, and there’s a spirit of camraderie and bon vivant as the audience settles in together as a group to take part in the experiences the show offers. Some of the theatres, for example the Winter Garden, are vintage houses. After cats closed its nineteen-year run there, the inside of the house was restored to what it seemed like in the 1920s. This is one of the hotspots on Broadway and around the town where you can be in the thick of NYC nightlife, now let’s look at the BARS

When Rent closes????

I LOVE Rent and im sad to see it close. I have to wonder, Why are they closing such a great show? It’s my favorite show and a dream of mine to see it on broadway so I wanted to know.

I think I might go into a deep depression when it closes. Strange I know. Anyone else feel this way? I know its dumb to feel this passionate about a show but Broadway is my LIFE and this closes while we get to look forward to Shrek the Musical? Really.
I know when it closes I wanted to know WHY. I know they are extending it but it doesnt make me any happier. I live all the way in TEXAS so the chances of me seeing it this yearb are slim. Its not been announced to be comeing here either. I just wanna know why its closing. I don’t care if your seeing it because im not. Whoever is though, your lucky.lolz. :D

FYI, the closing of Rent on Broadway has been delayed until September 7, 2008. See the official website for details.

Also, think about this: local theatre companies (educational, community, and regional/professional) generally CAN’T obtain the rights to produce shows when they are open on Broadway (or when there are tours performing nearby). The closing of the Broadway production means that a COMPANY NEAR YOU might be able to get the rights to do its own production of the show very soon! Believe it or not, local productions are very often BETTER than those on Broadway.

Also, the tour(s) of Rent will probably be circling the globe for at least another couple of years. Check the website to see when it will be near you.
